Is this funded by the NDIS?
No, standard Smart Watches are not considered a NDIS Support as they are not disability specific and are considered an every day expense.
In the NDIS Guide - 'List of supports that are not NDIS Supports' under 'Clothing and beauty related services' on page 5, the NDIS specifies:
"Jewellery, watches (including smart watches)."
If you are looking to purchase the smart watch for a specific feature that is has, such as fall detection or monitoring heart rate, it would be better to look at a more specific product such as a Fall Alarm/watch or a Heart Rate Monitor.
What's next?
In certain situations, the NDIS may fund smart watches, such as Apple Watches, as Replacement Supports meaning you can replace an exisiting support or supports in your plan.
If you require a standard Smart Watch (like an Apple Watch) for a specific need because of your disability, you can apply for it as a Replacement Support directly with the NDIS
