If you've paid for something out of pocket that's covered by your NDIS plan, you can claim it back as a reimbursement. Common examples include transport costs, equipment, and therapies you've paid upfront.
What you need before you start
- The Kismet app downloaded and you are logged in on your device.
- If you're on a laptop or computer, go to this article instead.
- A photo or file of your receipt
- The name of the provider you bought from
- The date you made the purchase
- If your claim is $250 or more: proof that you have already paid (more on this in Step 4)
Step 1 — Go to your Reimbursements tab
- Open the Kismet app and tap Budgets.
- Select your support plan.
- Tap the + button to start a new claim.
- Tap Claim a reimbursement
Step 2 — Add your receipt
Add your receipt by taking a photo or choose a file from your device.
Step 3 — Add your claim details
Once your receipt is uploaded, Kismet will read your receipt and fill in the items, provider, and date. A message will show while this is running. When it's done, check the details and fix anything that looks wrong.
Step 4 — Check your claim details
Before you move on, make sure these are correct:
- Items — what you bought, quantity, and how much each cost
- Provider — who you bought from
- Purchase date — when you made the purchase
You can add or remove items at any time before you submit
Step 5 — Add proof of payment (for claims of $250 or more)
If your claim is $250 or more, you need to show that you have already paid. Kismet will let you know if this step applies to you.
You can do this in one of three ways:
- Upload a file — such as a bank statement or payment confirmation email
- Tick the checkbox — to confirm the receipt has proof
- Nothing extra needed — some receipts already show the payment was made. If Kismet detects this, it will skip this step for you.
If you haven't met this requirement, you'll see a message telling you what to do. The Submit button will guide you if anything required is missing.
Step 6 — Agree to the declaration
Before you can submit, you'll need to tick a box to confirm that:
- You paid for this yourself
- It fits within your NDIS plan
- The details you've entered are correct
- You know the claim may be checked
Tick the box, then tap Submit.
Step 7 — You're done
Your claim has been sent to the Kismet team. You can see it in your Reimbursements tab. It will show a Received status.
What happens after you submit?
Your plan manager will look at your claim. If they need you to make changes, you'll get a notification. An orange dot will also appear on your Budget card and Reimbursements screen.
Tap the claim to see what needs to change. Make your updates, then submit again.
Once your claim is approved, the status will change to Paid.
Not ready to submit yet?
Your claim will be saved as a draft. You can find it in your Reimbursements tab and finish it later.
Submitting for someone else
If you are a support coordinator or carer, you can submit on behalf of a participant. Open the participant's plan and follow the same steps above.
