The NDIS typically funds therapy supports from Core when they are disability-related health supports and meet the reasonable and necessary criteria outlined in the NDIS Act. There may be some exceptions to this rule.
The following information is to provide you with examples of what the NDIS may fund. It’s important to note that this is only a guide to assist you make an informed decision. Only your My NDIS Contact, an NDIS Delegate, or the explicit written information in a current NDIS plan serves as the source of truth. The NDIS considers requests based on whether the support is related to your disability and whether it meets the NDIS Reasonable and Necessary Guidelines.
What are Therapeutic Supports from Core?
Therapeutic supports which utilise the Core ‘Assistance with Daily Life’ Support Category are intended to be Disability-Related Health Supports to provide care, other than nursing care, to respond to the disability-related health needs of a participant where that care is not the usual responsibility of the health system. Disability-Related Health Supports include continence management, Diabetes management, Dysphagia supports, nutrition support, podiatry support and wound & pressure care supports.
⚠️ Please note, as per the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Pricing Limits 2025-26, this is a temporary support.
Would We Process?
✅ Compliant NDIS Claims
The use of Core Therapy is available when funding is available and any of the following apply:
- Evidence the support is included in the NDIS plan or written ‘My NDIS Contact’ confirmation
- Clear evidence of a disability-related health need which relates to the disability (NDIS recognised). This includes continence management, Diabetes management, Dysphagia supports, nutrition support, podiatry support and wound & pressure care supports.
Evidence of the plan inclusion or disability-related condition would need to be confirmed.
⚠️ May Be Funded (Requires Plan Management Review)
The use of Core Therapy may be available if all of the following apply. Further evidence would be required to fulfil this option. This should be discussed with your Plan Manager.
- All other relevant therapy support budget categories have been exhausted, this includes CB Improved Daily Living and CB Health & Wellbeing.
- The therapy is a continued support for participant (not a new provider)
- The support is of critical importance for the participant’s wellbeing without which there would be a risk of compromising their safety or potentially reduce their functional capacity.
⚠️ May Be Funded (Requires NDIS Approval)
The use of Core Therapy may available if the NDIS provides written consent, this includes ‘My NDIS Contact’ or a reviewed NDIS Plan.
- Continued Therapy: Other therapeutic supports funding is still available through Capacity Building 'Improved Daily Living' or 'Health and Wellbeing'.
- Not a Disability-Health Related Therapy: The support is not listed as a Disability-Health related therapy.
❌ Not NDIS Funded
The following are examples of Core Therapy supports which the NDIS does not fund:
- Therapy not directly related to the participant’s disability: Examples include those aimed at fitness, related mental health.
- Supports that are the responsibility of other service systems: Examples include post-surgical physiotherapy, hospital-based therapy, school learning supports, rehabilitation.
