This is outlined in the Supports that are NDIS Supports PDF (p.4). MTA ensures you have safe housing while waiting for your permanent home to be ready.
What Is Funded Under MTA
MTA funding covers the cost of temporary accommodation for up to 90 days, providing a safe place to live while awaiting long-term housing solutions. In certain circumstances, funding may be extended beyond 90 days if there is evidence of ongoing need due to disability support requirements.
Key inclusions:
- Accommodation Costs: The daily cost of temporary housing, as specified in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
- Associated Supports: While MTA covers accommodation, additional supports such as personal care, assistive technology, or support coordination may be funded separately if they meet NDIS criteria and are included in the participant's plan
Supports Requiring NDIS Approval
Certain supports related to MTA require explicit approval from the NDIS and must be included in the participant's plan:
- ⚠️ Accommodation Costs: The daily cost of temporary housing, as specified in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
- ⚠️ Associated Supports: While MTA covers accommodation, additional supports such as personal care, assistive technology, or support coordination may be funded separately if they meet NDIS criteria and are included in the participant's plan
- ⚠️ Extended MTA Duration: If MTA is needed for more than 90 days, evidence must be provided to justify the extension .
These supports must be deemed reasonable and necessary, directly related to the participant's disability, and not funded by other systems.
❌ What Is Not Funded Under MTA
The NDIS does not fund certain costs associated with MTA:
- Day-to-Day Living Costs: Expenses such as food, internet, electricity, and other utilities are considered everyday living costs and are not covered.
- Long-Term Rent or Mortgage Payments: MTA funding cannot be used to pay for long-term housing costs once the participant moves into their permanent residence
- Supports Not Related to Disability Needs: Any support that is not directly related to the participant's disability or does not meet the NDIS funding criteria is not funded.
